Do you remember your first rainbow? I do.
At the age of four, I was waiting for the soft spring rain to stop. I so wanted to go outside and see the new daffodils that were blooming. The other enticement was a little bunny I had seen near there the day before.
The rain stopped as soon as it had started and my mother gave me a smile as I ran out the creaking door. I saw our elderly neighbors out in their yard. After I giggled at that friendly bunny hopping by the daffodil, I walked over to say hello. They were busy pruning the grape vines along their fence. With such ease in their eyes, they smiled and laughed when I shared the interlude with the bunny.
Then, the sun suddenly burst its rays and breezed the new spring warmth. I gazed all around while breathing in the fresh air. Immediately, I was facing the clouds in the sky smeared with all the colors of my crayons. My eyes were fixed on the celestial charm. The neighbors could see this was something more to me, and delved into the mystery of God, Noah, and the rainbow’s legacy. This was quite a story that I would never forget, His Promise that this beautiful kaleidoscope of colored light would always be here. And it always is.
Our excitement of His Promise as a young child, is filled with so much zeal. Just like the first moment we are born again! That stirred explosion of the new us! There is so much hunger to know Him more! The old us is discarded; the new us begins to shine. The eyes and hearts are opened wide like a butterfly escaping from its cocoon. To be around the newborn spirit-filled person, brings such joy to those who are older. It reminds us of our first steps walking the new path He has given. A freely given Promise Jesus gave at a huge cost; just like a storm when God gives us the rainbow.
When the storms we face seem too much to bear, remember His Promise of the Rainbow. He asks that you seek Him, and then your answer is, “only a prayer away”.
Genesis 9:12-17 NIV
“And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant, I am making between me and you, and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come. I have set my rainbow in the clouds and it will be the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. Whenever, I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow, and the rainbow appears in the clouds. I will remember my covenant between Me and you and of all living creatures of every kind NEVER again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting COVENANT BETWEEN God and all things, creatures of every kind on the earth.”
