Did we ever think that the names of the Books and chapters of the Bible are transcribed as chapters and verses? It is the only way to converse the locality of His Scriptures. But Jesus did not give the chapter and verse of His Word when Satan was tempting Him. He didn’t have to. When Jesus answered in His Word, it was perfect, and Satan knew well HIS WORD, but still tried to change it in his lies. What is the real importance of knowing His Word? We need to reflect it in the doing of it. If we just mirror it, nothing is accomplished. So we say, let His Light shine, we need to reflect His Word.
James 1:23 New International Version (NIV)
23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror
If you were to “google” the question; “ Why are there chapters and verses in the Bible?” The explanation will explain when and why. It is indicated that the Bible certainly was not written that way in the time of Jesus.
Matthew 4:1-11 King James Version (KJV)
4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward a hungered.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, if thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
There is a scripture in the Bible. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God…. do you know where His Word of this is found in the Bible? But what if you do not. I know it, in my heart, that is where I know it; also my memory will stick in and say Romans 3:23. It is written there. .
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, Thou art with me, Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Yes, I do know this is in Psalm 23, but what verse? See, if it is in your heart, it is different than being in your mind. Can you really picture this? Walking in the valley of the shadow of death? Have you ever seen this inside of you? Your heart will remember; your mind will see the writing, but not know it. Where is our spirit, in our brain, or in our heart? (Romans 5:5) What is His Word? The Word is alive, He is breathing, thus all scripture is God Breathed.
Romans 5:5 King James Version (KJV)
5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the Holy Ghost, which is given unto us, sheds the love of God abroad in our hearts.
The following scripture is a prayer of acceptance of Jesus as your Savior. Just think you will be my brother or sister! I need more!
*Romans 10:9-11 New International Version (NIV)
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[a]
Please pray and declare that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead. You will be saved if you believe in your heart that you are justified by your faith through His grace. Saved for all eternity! Now that is Amazing Grace!
There are more scriptures of course to remind us where His Spirit dwells within us. But the heart is not really our physical heart. That is very hard to understand. His ways are not our ways, how did He place it, it is spiritual not physical.
We always need to remember:
*2 Timothy 3:16-17 New International Version (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
You would laugh at me to know how I remember this chapter and verse. Since I have a memory problem, there are ways I use, called association. In this case, my cousin’s name is Timothy, the oldest son of my uncle. The number 3 = love, 16 and 17 is his age when I remember him the most. He would pull on my ponytails. He is about 8 years older than me.
So how do I memorize the words? His Word melts my heart and stamps itself there. The next week, it seems something comes up in a discussion, and I need to use it. So I use it again and again, and before I realize it, it breathes from me. His God breathed word is breathed from Him in us.
Where is the Perfect Place on earth? The Perfect Place lives within you, Jesus, the Word, your first love, your Savior, your Redeemer, and you are one in Him.
This is my newest verse of memorizing. Do you have it figured out for association?
*2 Timothy 2:13 New International Version (NIV)
13 if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.
